New Release: RHEL 8.4 on IBM Z

RHEL 8.4 is out! It ships, among others:

  • IBM Fibre Channel Endpoint Security for encryption of data-in-flight
  • Support for HiperSockets Converged Interface, converging a HiperSockets device and a NIC into a single logical interface
  • SMC-D v2, supporting peer communication on different IP subnets and simplified configuration
  • Ability to re-IPL from a PCIe-attached NVMe IPL device without clearing memory, improving time required for a re-IPL
For a detailed list of Linux on Z-specific changes, see the release notes.

IBM-specific documentation for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.4 is available at IBM Documentation here (in particular: Device Drivers, Features and Commands on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.4).

Webinar: The Reference Architecture for Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform on IBM Z and IBM LinuxONE is for you

Join us for our webinar on Wednesday, May 12th, 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM EST!

Abstract

With the new Reference Architecture for Red Hat OpenShift on IBM Z and IBM LinuxONE (RHOCP)  we want to make it easier for planning and building of an RHOCP environment. The session will elaborate on the options, capabilities and best practices for RHOCP on IBM Z and IBM LinuxONE based on the z/VM and KVM hypervisors, aligned to the requirements of the use cases you want to implement. The living document for the Reference Architecture is updated with the evolution of new features and capabilities in RHOCP.

Did you know...?

...that besides contributing to the regular updates of Linux distributions, like fixpacks, service packs and point releases, the Linux on Z development team also delivers bugfixes that become available to users through the ongoing, distro-specific update mechanisms as follows:
  • z-Stream in Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL)
  • maintweb updates in SUSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES)
  • SRU updates in Canonical's Ubuntu
Therefore, we strongly encourage Linux on Z users to keep their systems up to date and apply these updates whenever they become available to avoid issues that are already fixed!
